Organize your desktop into two zones

Keep your keyboard, mouse, and notepad inside a comfortable reach arc. Store reference items slightly farther back so you are not leaning all day.

  • Reach zone: tools you touch every few minutes.
  • View zone: monitor centered, about an arm's length away.
  • Light: place lamps to the side to reduce screen glare.

Anchor your chair and foot support first. Then set monitor height before stacking books or accessories on the desk.

Bring a note with your chair height and monitor settings. Reset the space in under two minutes when you sit down.

Alternate sitting and standing gradually. Keep the same elbow angle in both positions and wear supportive shoes.

Three basics for a steadier seat

Seat depth

Leave about two fingers of space between the seat edge and the back of your knees for even thigh support.

Back support

Match the chair's lumbar curve to your lower back. Avoid perching forward to read the screen.

Feet grounded

Keep feet flat on the floor or on a stable footrest. Hips and knees near a right angle usually feel natural.

Our guides describe general workspace habits. They are not a substitute for professional medical or occupational therapy advice.

Quick setup checklist

Progress: 0 / 5

Breaks that fit a real workday

Short, regular pauses often beat one long stretch at the end of the day. Stand, roll your shoulders, and look past the monitor when you can.

Minutes 0–20

Settled posture, eyes on task, wrists relaxed above the desk.

Minute 20

Stand, breathe, shift your weight—thirty seconds can help you reset.

Top of the hour

Grab water, open a window, or walk briefly before sitting back down.

Reminder tip

Use a quiet phone alert or calendar ping. Predictable cues build habit without breaking focus.
